Imogen Stidworthy Wins The Liverpool Art Prize 2008

At a crowded special awards ceremony today, Sunday March 9 2008, Ian Jackson, Director of artinliverpool.com announced that Imogen Stidworthy is the winner of the Liverpool Art Prize 2008.

A cheque for £2000 was presented by the main sponsor Paul Hyland of chartered accountants Duncan Sheard Glass. The People's Choice award went to the painter twins, Amrit & Rabindra Singh who were given a cheque for £500 by the award sponsor Arthur Diamond. Over 440 votes were cast by visitors to the gallery in just 10 days since the exhibition opened at the new Contemporary Urban Centre in Greenland Street, Liverpool.

Stidworthy was chosen as the winner by a panel of judges including Terry Duffy, Moira Kenny, Callum Moncrieff, Angela Heslop and Robbie Davison. The people responsible for setting up the Liverpool Art Prize, Ian & Minako Jackson of artinliverpool.com said

"We are really thrilled and proud. The exhibition looks fantastic thanks to the artists and curator, Tomas Harold
and the wonderful venue. Its been a great success so far and we offer our congratulations to the winners and sincere thanks to all the artists. We look forward to many years of organising this major annual art event here in Liverpool and hope that it is something that all Merseyside-based artists will aspire to be a part of."

The exhibition continues at the Contemporary Urban Centre NW until May 7 2008.
