ACME Hosts Visit from Minister for Creative Industries

On Thursday 20th November 2008 Barbara Follett MP, Minister for Culture, Creative Industries and Tourism visited the region.

As the Sector Development Agency for the Creative Industries on Merseyside; ACME was asked by Government Office to facilitate her meeting with a selection of the region's leading creative businesses.

The informal discussion focused on the businesses themselves, and specifically how they have been affected by 08 and the challenges and opportunities facing them in the current economic climate.

The following businesses met with Barbara and offered a range of views from different specialisms, scales of operation and experience:

Barbara Follett said:

"As the Capital of Culture, Liverpool has seen first hand the enormous benefits creativity can bring. The city is rightly proud of its rich history of innovation and enterprise and I find it really inspiring to meet talented representatives from the many creative industries which are thriving on Merseyside. In these challenging economic times, it is more important than ever that we help creative businesses to grow and turn talent into jobs - I am glad to say that Merseyside ACME is doing just that."

Impressed by the enthusiasm of the meeting the Minister urged the businesses to continue to feed their thoughts into the government strategy for the Creative Economy launched by The Secretary of State for Culture, Andy Burnham earlier this year

Anna Heyes, managing director of strategic marketing and PR firm Active Profile, said:

"Merseyside has a creative community to be proud of and it was great to hear Barbara Follett speaking with such admiration for what ACME has achieved as a creative voice for Merseyside, and how the creative businesses on Merseyside are seen as a shining example throughout the UK. Being creative is about being agile and it was good to see how we, as creative businesses, are seizing opportunities to become stronger, review our position and go out to new markets nationally and internationally."
